I too was given the Butrans 20 patch for surgical pain by a Pain Management Dr. It didn’t really help with pain because it was less Bup than I was taking before. And for one thing, you sure won’t feel the drug working like you do taking Suboxone. So my addict brain said loud and clear that he didn’t like it. But it did keep me out of w/d’s and I felt quite normal. I ended up back at my Sub Dr. to get back on it.
And yes, the price is very high. Even with insurance it cost me $110 co-pay which put a financial burden on me and just couldn’t afford to stay on it.
I did the math and it came out to 2.85mgs spread out through a day. It sounds like enough but didn’t do anything for me. I think the patch is really for opiate naive patients and probably works very well for them. Give them to us Sub users and it does nothing except keep the w/d’s at bay. At least it did for me.
But now reading about how it can be used to wean off of Sub they may be on to something.
I’m curious to see how this turns out.
