Hey guys and girls,
I am new to the forum and I wanted to introduce myself. First off I want to say that Suboxone literally sved my life. I was going down a dark and winding road that ends the same for many. Thnak God, I searched around or Suboxone. The bup/nalox combo saved me once after a quick 5 day detox tretment at an inpatient facility. But as they say, relapse is part of recovery.
Anyway, I have been on a dose of 8mg/2mg for about three months now and I noticed that my energy isnt as great as it was when I got off the full agonist and had the Suboxone honeymoon. After a battery of tests, I found out I had a testosterone level of 120 (The average for males is 280 – 600 or so). Turns out, I also may have sleep apnea. I’ve always had issues with weight, unless I was strung out, but even with the Suboxone I cant seem to loose it. I thought my lack of libido was due to my opiate abuse, but it seems it may be more than that??
The endocrinologist seems to think the prolactin increase is due to the suboxone, but she isnt sure about the testosterone drop.
Either way, I’m on 5mg of Androgel and I hope for the mood and other "male characteristics" to come back.
Has anyone experienced a drop in their testosterone and/or an increase in their prolactin since starting on buprenorphine???
I’m just curious, because I REALLY dont want to stop the Suboxone. If it comes down to it, my addictionologist says I can switch over to the Vivitrol sooner, but I’m worried.
Sorry for the long post, but I was wondering if any of the guys (or girls that have noticed their men) out there have had the issue with libido, energy. weight gain…. you know, the stuff that makes you feel like "less of a man".
Thanks!
